The path to instructor
The path to SSI Instructor certification involves four steps:
Dive Guide
This rating requires that you complete the Dive Guide training course. This will prepare you to conduct guided dives for certified divers.
Divemaster
This rating requires a minimum of the following:
- Certification as a Master Scuba Diver
- Certification as a Dive Guide
- Successful completion of the Science of Diving course
- 75 logged dives
Assistant Instructor
This rating requires a minimum of the following:
- Certification as a Divemaster
- 75 logged dives
- Successful completion of the Divemaster course
Open Water Instructor
This rating requires a minimum of the following:
- Certification as an Assistant Instructor
- 100 logged dives
- Successful completion of the Instructor Training course and Instructor Evaluation
Harry’s Dive Shop is not one of those 30-day-wonder instructor “colleges” you hear about. If done correctly, the steps leading to Instructor certification will take several months. During that time, you will:
- Complete a series of self-study courses.
- Spend time in the classroom, pool and open water.
- Assist with several diver training courses.
- Independently guide certified divers.
There is no set schedule for this; it is something you will work out with your instructors. It is different for every candidate. However, if you are willing to commit, we will help you reach your goal. And you will be able to take price in the fact you learned the right way and did not cut corners.
■ Be at least 18 years old
