Captain Don’s Habitat Bonaire
February 14-21, 2026
Consistently rated among the top three dive destinations in the Caribbean, the island of Bonaire is renowned for its aquatic life, soft and hard corals — and some of the best shore diving on the planet. Located in the southeastern Caribbean, Bonaire experiences nearly perfect weather year round.
The destination
Perfect weather, friendly people. And everywhere you look, you see the island’s Dutch heritage reflected in the names and architecture. But don’t worry, everyone speaks English. Bonaire sits at the southern edge of the Caribbean — a location that results in its near-ideal climate and year-round warm water. Beyond the great diving, you’ll find herds wild burros and an island rich in history.
The diving
Where many Caribbean islands have a vertical wall that begins a mile or more from shore, Bonaire is surrounded by a steeply sloped incline that starts as little as 100 feet from shore, generally in 40 feet or less of water. This means that most of the island’s best dive sites can be accessed from shore, as well as by boat. There are more than 50 numbered dive sites along the island’s protected coast, all accessible by car. Water temp averages 78-84°F all year.
The resort
Total Diving Freedom has always been the concept at Captain Don’s Habitat. There are more than world-class dives are within a 15-minute boat ride. Take a giant stride off our divers-only pier and you’re already looking at clusters of starlet coral, surrounded by colorful wrasse and gobies.
The drop-off starts at 30 feet, only a few kicks away. Shore diving is a must at Captain Don’s and around the island. Following accepted safe diving practices, you can grab a tank and go whenever you want.
