Events and Activities

Swim Meets

Quarterly Swim Meets take place Saturdays from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. These are fun events for all swimmers and all levels of experience from ages three years and up. Participants get a ribbon for the event they swam, as well as an event t-shirt. Ribbons are presented during the next scheduled swim lesson. These meets help young swimmers understand how swim meets work along with how to support and cheer for other swimmers. Upcoming dates include:

Jump Week

Jump Week is a safety awareness event that takes place every two to three months, for ten minutes of each swim class. During Jump Week, we focus on general water safety, not just in the pool, but for all bodies of water. We learn the physical exercises, reciting rules and practicing policies. Students should wear their swim suit beneath their clothes; shirt, pants, and shoes. The main focus is What would you do if you fell in the water with your clothes on? Each child is to “turn around and grab the wall” fully clothed so that they will experience the falling sensation and how heavy clothing gets when saturated. 2018 dates include:

Swim Camp

Swim Camp is a week-long day camp for ages 4 through 10, held once a year, noon to 4:00 pm. We talk about water safety; have a daily theme with fun facts of various sea creatures; do arts and crafts, and share some delicious snacks. Pool time will consist of different in-water activities rounded out with a 30-minute swim lesson. The next program takes place Monday, June 12, through Friday, June 16, 2017. Our Pools-In-Schools program is held every first Saturday of the month at 2:00 pm. In this presentation we cover six water safety rules:

  • Always Use the Buddy System
  • Look before you leap
  • Throw, don’t go
  • A vest is best
  • Walk, never run
  • Don’t stall, call 9-1-1

At the end of this 30-minute presentation, each participant gets a fun activity booklet.
